National Presidentís Message

It is a delight to welcome the first edition of the official scientific publication of the Nigeria Society of Neurological Sciences, Journal of Clinical and Applied Neuroscience (JCAN), to the stable of global scientific publications. This is the fulfilment of a long-time vision of our noble society, Nigeria Society of Neurological Sciences (NSNS). It is an established fact that a research remains incomplete and unethical when communication of its findings, either positive or negative, to the scientific community is ignored. The JCAN is to serve as an acceptable avenue for communication of scientific reports from Nigerian and foreign neuroscientists to the world, thus serving as a reliable source of neuroscience reports and references.

The JCAN is here to challenge Nigerian neuroscience community to engage in laudable research of social value. The journal can only be sustained if and when we submit articles for peer review and publication. I seize this opportunity to thank all members of the NSNS for their positive response to the call for scientific articles towards the production of this first edition.

The past presidents of the NSNS deserve commendation for initiating the vision of JCAN, namely; Professors Adesola Ogunniyi, Temitayo Shokunbi and Yomi Ogun. Professor Shokunbi deserves a special mention for setting the stage for the take-off of the journal. The current National Secretary, Dr. JKC Emejulu, who also serves as the Editor of the journal, deserves a loud ovation for his commitment, sacrifice and perseverance in ensuring that this first edition becomes a reality. On behalf of the Executive Committee, I congratulate the Editor-in-Chief, Professor Adesola Ogunniyi, a mentor per excellence and a role model, who has been a motivating force behind the realization of this vision.

With a deep sense of humility, I welcome JCAN to the neuroscience research community.

Thank you.

Professor Olubunmi Ogunrin FWACP, FRCP (Lond.)
National President
